Overview

Facilitating international trade, Salalah Port is one of the biggest ports in the Middle East through which Asian cargo reaches Europe. The existing unimpressive and outmoded website forced the port authority to look for an upgrade that would ensure it had a contemporary web page that could meet the diverse needs of the target market which includes shippers, cargo owners, and individuals who may be interested in various services offered by the port.

Challenges

  • Outdated Website: Stakeholders could easily navigate through the organization’s website which was not friendly to the end users.
  • Diverse Stakeholder Needs: It was clear that they required creating something that can provide a host of user experiences to as many user groups as possible.
  • Content Management: This website requires a powerful and adaptive content management system to be able to refresh the content of the pages as often as possible.
  • Performance and Accessibility: It was mandatory for the site to work splendidly under high traffic conditions and should run on different operating devices.

Solution

  • User-Centered Design: Compared user’s preferences and needs to come up with a design of the website that will serve the needs of the various customers.
  • Responsive Design: Designed a fully responsive website which means that it would correctly display the content on the larger desktop screen, tablet, and mobile screen.
  • Robust CMS Implementation: Implemented a CMS that would be easy to navigate by port authority staff for editing information, posting news, and other information.
  • Performance Optimization: Increased measures of agreed-upon website speed and performance to minimize loading time and sluggish response.

Results and Benefits

  • Enhanced User Experience: The new design enhances user satisfaction with the displayed information and as a result, there were 47% drops.
  • Increased Engagement: Web metrics of user engagement revealed that while visitor loyalty is up by 33%, numerous visit events appeared to suggest that more of visitors’ time on site is spent browsing other parts of the site.
  • Traffic Growth: A redesigned website tour brought more visitors and in three months since its release, the number of unique visits increased by 56%
  • Efficiency in Management of Contents: With the new CMS, the port authority was able to update information fast hence reducing the time needed for the update of the content by 62 %.
  • Enhanced User Experience: The Site was responsive in design enabling the users to access the site from any gadget in turn improving the usability of the site greatly.

Conclusion

The website revamp for Salalah Port successfully addressed the needs of various stakeholders by creating a modern, user-friendly platform. By putting the user experience first and integrating a good content management system and responsive design, the port authority not only enhances the satisfaction of the users but also the traffic and participation. This project presents a great case on the aspects of having a well-designed and functional internet site in the logistics business for effective communication and service delivery.
